The War of Art (Steven Pressfield)

Updated: Sep 6, 2020

The War of Art is all about breaking the resistance and blocks of your mind. The book is an instantaneous source of inspiration for those who have the soul of an artist inside, who craves to initiate a creative art. The quote on the cover page of this edition by distinguished American magazine Esquire is

"A vital gem. A kick in the ass."

The quote is exactly the essence of the book, and it is the stimulator between your pen and paper. The piece is more than a book; it is a guide that escorts you on how to defeat the resistance that restricts you from conquering the next steps in your life. As an author, the writer has excerpted his own experiences, which will help the aspiring writers who face the resistance of soil and the outer environment.

In the initial chapters, the book picturizes all those blocs which behave as a resistance, will give suggestions on how we can distinguish between life and resistance. Going forward, the book is specifying on each opposition that we all encounter in life such as, fear, procrastination, Criticism, Self-doubt, etc. Even though each chapter has been consolidated within 5 to 10 sentences, the points are precise, realistic, and proactive.

In the closing chapters, the writer is focusing more on the war of arts and how the artists can win the battle. The book is pointing on some purposes (Social Media hierarchy, ego, etc.) set by many of us that we see as the fruits of our creative work. The author says these appetites are the traces of evolution and can't be fulfilled in the open-ended life. The contra part is several examples quoted in the book is not so well-known with ordinary people. If there were a footnote detailing the instances, then it would have been more constructive.

I felt the book as a source of motivation, not merely for artists but also for the ordinary man who aspires to be a triumphant human being. This is a must-read book if you have once envisaged of becoming an entrepreneur or a thriving professional. This book will water the seeds of creativity you have once placed in your soul.
